  • I see some differences comapring to another source that uses DWD data. I think this is solely as they seem to switch to ICON-EU forecasts if the region is in Europe. Hence just for clearification: Is TWFG always using ICON, IOW the global model?
  • I see some interesting regions I can not yet sort in. E.g. if I search for this famous Helgoland I get Elbmuendungor Nordfr.Kue displayed as a selectable. Am I right to assume that these refer to the coastal areas of the same name? So the displayed forecast is an area forecast, while some others refer to a given weather station and are more spot forecasts?
  • Sticking a bit further on this famous Island, there is Helgoland, Gemeinde Helgoland, Insel Helgoland. These are just search keys to drill down on the actual stations displayed once selected, right?
  • I tend to get confused with the rain clouds. Is there some key which icons get displayed when? (My impression is that TWFG shows "more rain" than some other services for the same area, while it seems that the model data are comparable.)

Ok, I'll try my best to answer this: :-)

  • TWFG uses the MOSMIX data from the Deutscher Wetterdienst (DWD). The MOSMIX data is derived from ICON and IFS (ECMWF) (see here for details).

  • The regions are the WarncellIDs, the WarncellIDs are closely related to the "Amtlicher Gemeindeschlüssel". You can basically say that the WarncellIDs are an extension of the AGS. WarncellIDs have also human-readable names (e.g. "Landkreis Göttingen"). The names can be searched when looking for a weather station in TWFG. They do not have their "own" weather stations. When you select a name derived from a WarncellID / AGS , the app will give you a list of close weather stations. The distance is derived from the center of the attached polygon(s).

  • see above, yes, they are basically search keys.

  • see the FAQ in the Readme.md about significant weather, the icons/conditions are defined by the DWD and they have priorities. TL;DR: TWFG always displays the condition with the highest priority, if available.

I hope this helps you.

Thank you very much for all those pointers and the detailed explanations!
