Sync terminfo to upstream ncurses
I did some research and I found these mailing list threads.
- Alacritty did this: https://lists.gnu.org/archive/cgi-bin/namazu.cgi?query=alacritty&submit=Search%21&idxname=bug-ncurses&max=20&result=normal&sort=score
- Kitty did this: https://lists.gnu.org/archive/cgi-bin/namazu.cgi?query=kitty&submit=Search%21&idxname=bug-ncurses&max=20&result=normal&sort=score
Pushing the terminfo upstream should make life easier in the longterm, especially with ssh. But it might be a bumpy ride to get it included and syncronized with upstream though…
This has been discussed, briefly, on IRC: https://freenode.logbot.info/foot-terminal/20201228
21:19 ifreund what does it take to get a new terminfo into ncurses? 21:20 dnkl ifreund: not sure. Maybe just sending a patch to dickey. It's been discussed before, and at that time I said I'd prefer foot's terminfo (and thus foot) to stabilize before we try to upstream it 21:21 ifreund ah yeah, don't want to get locked into something suboptimal just yet 21:23 ifreund I wonder how many years it will be before I feel comfortable stabilizing river's protocols 21:23 dnkl ifreund: yeah, even if we can make changes to it after upstreaming it, it will take time for those changes to trickle down to users
But eventually we will try to upstream it, for sure. I just don't think the time is quite right yet.
