[Feature]: Per-post language selector #9692

What feature would you like implemented?

Add the ability to individually set a note's language when posting it.

Why should we add this feature?

Hi!

Certain users (like myself here) speak (and post) in different languages. Maybe I'm mistaken and calckey "guesses" a note language, but I think it just collects it from the user profile. This means than in multi-language profiles the posts may be incorrectly labelled.

This may be confusing for Translation services, as well as for users filtering by language, something already possible in other fediverse networks and that's being talked about here ( #9279 #9506 )

Thanks!

Hey! Native greek speaker here, you're right, we should implement this. Thanks for taking the time to do a search before posting btw, and for referencing the relevant issues - this makes my job easier =) What you're asking for is already mentioned in 9279, but it's a separate/distinct request so lets keep this one open as well for future reference. Cheers!

This is an issue that I'm facing as a Mastodon user with a friend on a CalcKey server. He posts in Japanese and I am an English speaker. The lack of the language is an issue.

I'd also like to be able to explicitly set "no language" so we can use it for posts with only images, emojis, ASCII art, MFM art, mathematical expression, etc.

It would also be nice if it could show what language was set for each post like on Glitch:
