It would be nice if, similar to the warnings map, also other maps could be fetched and kept in the internal cache.

Most of these maps are available from DWD via Analysis- and forecast charts Europe. North Atlantic an Europe features the very interesting Analysis chart, but also some forecast charts. (The "Western Europe" selection is not that interesting as it is just a zoomed version of the former chart.)

Especially the analysis chart is quite detailed. To be usefull on a small device it would require the ability to scroll and zoom. Note that the charts use static URLs so it might be quite easy to integrate them, like this:

etc.

It would be nicer to take them from opendata, e.g. https://opendata.dwd.de/weather/charts/

adding charts from the wmc directory (https://opendata.dwd.de/weather/wmc/icon-eps/charts/) might be a chance to cover a broader audience.

this might be out of scope right now

Searching stackoverflow for ideas I came up with the following:

what about adding a gallery like view containing lazy loading images from the opendata directory using the following links:

https://stackoverflow.com/a/559781

https://androidexample.com/Download_Images_From_Web_And_Lazy_Load_In_ListView_-_Android_Example/index.php?view=article_discription&aid=112

https://stackoverflow.com/a/3182722

I'd love to start right now with a PoC but unfortunatley my knowledge of android java dev is limited to copy-pasting from stackoverflow pretending to know what's going on. 🙁

To precise my last comment:

I'm using the following images on a daily basis:

Probablity of Percipitation 24h - Europe

To cover up (possible) concerns about increasing load on server it might relevant to evaluate the integration of a image proxy e.g. images.weserv.nl - based on cloudflare. This might rise questions regarding privacy.

Right now I have a cron job loading both images for me. So integrating those in the app would be a nice to have and imho lower the bar for less tech savy users.

As mentioned here #65 this might be a easier than dealing with the present map.

These are just my personal thoughts as I have to admit I have close to no knowledge of the technical background.
