We see the Fediverse as the main enabler of Social Coding and united software development. Besides Ideation and Projects for which we want offer federated features for, the idea of Community and collaboration is most fundamental.
These are also core to the objectives of Federated Diversity Foundation, or fedi.foundation. This website is still in draft, and the idea behind it is a Proposal to SocialHub community.
This Social Coding initiative is perfect fit to be a primary 'tool' that the fedi foundation uses, embraces and loves.
Therefore I propose that - while this initiative develops fully independently - we see ourselves as one of multiple initiatives that will exist under the fedi foundation umbrella.
How that actually fits together is something TBD. These are all emerging ideas related to making fedi stronger and healthier. The fedi foundation is about nourishing the 'substrate' of the fediverse on which every fedizen ultimately relies:
To show affiliation the Social Coding website might show a "A fedi foundation initiative" indicator or badge.
Note that on Fediverse Town I am in discussion for serious plans to further the foundation idea.
If you have more details on what this means, I'd like to bring this project into a larger more evolved community.
The plans for a real foundation are as early days as Social Coding is.
There was a risk of two same-named foundation initiatives to be launched: the one proposed by me half a year ago,
fedi.foundation
and the one proposed by Paula of Fediverse Town, fediverse.foundation
even though I had announced fedi foundation on the forum. So we started to investigate how to unify our plans:I see Fediverse Foundation as a loose umbrella organisation, under which any initiative that is dedicated to evolving the fediverse can affiliate themself. The foundation website then would allow anyone to discover all this going on on fedi.
But initially the affiliation is no more than a label and a hyperlink, e.g. "A fediverse foundation initiative" or "We [support / are part of] the fediverse foundation".
The opportunity in the longer run for Social Coding could be very attractive:
We can do that.
But I'll not be able to involve myself in that initiative too - but I'll be thankful to any help, feedback, whatever they can provide to succeed with this project.
I've just got my hands full already with Social Coding, that developer cooperative I've talked about on Mastodon and a small hobby project.
