Just wanted to ask about the general attitude towards a free an open Copilot called Codeberg Sherpa. What are your thoughts about having Codeberg Sherpa? From my side, AI should benefit everyone.
I asume you are refering to Github Copilot as the "reference implementation" of such a system. Well...the reactions to this "feature" were spread between "it the end of the world" and "its the saviour of the world".
From my point of view such a feature is completely out of scope for Gitea and Codeberg atleast for the next years.
Yes, if you want to build this, this can easily be a standalone software project which crawls software forges and respects licences.
IMHO, AI is a high-tech solution for a high-tech problem. It uses a lot of computing power and energy which we actually don't have without ruining the world, to make it easier to write complicated software and boilerplate stuff. Personally, I would not support such a project, but instead try to make software itself simpler.
I like your points of view on it. I totally agree with you guys actually. I tried a view assistants, and am not so satisfied. They often ruined my code or are not able to accomplish what I would like them to do.
Still, I see potential in automating tasks a developer should not be worried about. I am concerned with coding a lot, though not for the sake of coding alone but to solve problems concerned with industrial chemistry.
I am happy to help building such a system though would not pay for the resources as I paid money to codeberg to provide for such resources in the case they are needed.
I am serious about boilerplate code, too and would love if Codeberg implements more tools to make code standardized and of high quality.
