The format is simmilar, but i think that the DE40.. is some kind of german company identification? If so proposing it to be clarified in https://join.codeberg.org/ to avoid confusion

This is an actual IBAN it is linked to the banking account of codeberg and it can be used to transpher money to codeberg. Wikipedia - IBAN
DE40 ZZZ0 0002 1728 25
This number represents something completely different.
It's codebergs Creditor Identifier that is used to ask your bank for a direct debit, in this case to collect your membership fees. Wikipedia - Direct Debit
I see how this can be confusing for someone living outside of europe, no offense here. Maybe we should add something to the docs to clarify how the banking (SEPA) system works?
Those are two totally different usecases.

correct. The SEPA direct debit mandate text is legal requirement prescribed by banks, there is little we can change at the core. An additional comment explaining the terms could be worthwhile tho. Contributions to https://codeberg.org/Codeberg/build-deploy-reg-server welcome!

It would probably be enough to add a hint in the Join Codeberg UI, as @hw suggested, because I think it'll be unlikely that people wondering about this expect there's something about it in the Docs, if there's nothing about it in the UI 😉

I think that this would be a better place for it?

Will either be solved by the issue linked above, or there is no way to change this. Also, I think that people looking for the IBAN will probably always look at the imprint where this is unmistakably stated.
